NMHS Credit Union Manager

Job Summary

The Credit Union Manager provides leadership and oversight for all credit union operations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality financial services to members across the health system. This role is responsible for the financial performance, regulatory compliance, lending activities, member services, and operational integrity of the credit union. The Manager partners with the Credit Union Board of Directors to execute strategic initiatives, maintain sound financial practices, and support membership growth. The position also leads credit union staff and fosters a culture of service excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Job Functions

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Collaborates with the Credit Union Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic plans, goals, policies, and initiatives that support the credit union's mission and long-term sustainability.
  • Provides operational, financial, and regulatory guidance to the Board to support informed decision-making.
  • Prepares and presents financial, operational, membership, and compliance reports to the Board.
  • Recommends opportunities to enhance services, improve operational efficiency, and increase member engagement.

Operations Management

  • Directs daily credit union operations to ensure efficient, accurate, and member-focused service delivery.
  • Oversees account openings and closures, deposits, withdrawals, payments, loan processing, and member account maintenance.
  • Develops and maintains operational procedures and internal controls to safeguard member assets and organizational resources.
  • Evaluates operational processes and implements improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and service performance.
  • Maintains business continuity and security procedures to support uninterrupted operations.

Member Services & Growth

  • Promotes a high level of service and responsiveness to members throughout the health system, including hospitals, clinics, and administrative locations.
  • Serves as the escalation point for complex member concerns and account-related issues.
  • Develops and coordinates programs that promote membership growth, financial wellness, and utilization of credit union products and services.
  • Builds relationships with organizational leaders and employees to strengthen awareness and engagement with credit union offerings.

Lending & Financial Services

  • Oversees consumer lending activities and ensures compliance with approved lending policies and underwriting standards.
  • Reviews loan quality, delinquency trends, collections activities, bankruptcies, repossessions, levies, and related risk management efforts.
  • Ensures appropriate action is taken to resolve delinquent accounts and mitigate financial risk.
  • Monitors deposit products and member financial services to ensure competitiveness and member value.

Financial Management

  • Develops, administers, and monitors the annual operating budget.
  • Oversees financial performance, including revenues, expenses, reserves, investments, and cash management activities.
  • Monitors investment portfolios, certificates, interest rates, and related financial instruments.
  • Analyzes financial data and trends to support organizational decision-making and financial sustainability.
  • Ensures accurate and timely completion of monthly, quarterly, annual, and regulatory financial reporting requirements.

Compliance, Risk & Audit Management

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing credit union operations.
  • Maintains policies, procedures, records, and documentation to support regulatory compliance and operational effectiveness.
  • Coordinates internal audits, external audits, examinations, and regulatory reviews.
  • Implements and monitors corrective action plans resulting from audits or compliance findings.
  • Oversees fraud prevention, information security, and risk management programs to protect members and organizational assets.

Vendor & Third-Party Relationship Management

  • Manages relationships with financial service providers, insurers, technology partners, and other third-party vendors.
  • Oversees programs related to credit disability insurance, credit life insurance, member protection products, and related services.
  • Evaluates vendor performance and contract compliance to ensure service quality and regulatory adherence.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Recruits, develops, coaches, and evaluates credit union staff.
  • Establishes performance expectations and promotes accountability for results.
  • Facilitates employee development and ongoing training to support individual and organizational success.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels and efficient utilization of resources.
  • Fosters a culture of teamwork, professionalism, service excellence, and continuous improvement.

Reporting & Administration

  • Oversees preparation and distribution of member statements and credit reporting activities.
  • Ensures compliance with state unclaimed property reporting requirements.
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, regulatory changes, and best practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Credit Union Board of Directors.

Qualifications

Education

Required

  • Associate's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Banking, Credit Union Administration, or a related field.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Banking, Economics, or a related field.

Licensure/Certification

Preferred

  • Credit Union compliance, lending, financial management, or leadership certification.
  • Certified Credit Union Executive (CCUE) or related professional designation.

Experience

Required

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in banking, credit union operations, or financial services.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Experience in lending, member services, financial operations, compliance, or related financial services functions.

Preferred

  • Experience managing a credit union or financial services operation.
  • Experience supporting Board governance activities and regulatory examinations.
  • Experience in a healthcare-affiliated, employee-based, or community credit union environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of credit union operations, consumer lending, deposits, investments, collections, and financial services.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations impacting credit union operations.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, financial analysis, and internal controls.
  • Ability to interpret financial statements, operational metrics, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated leadership, employee development, and performance management skills.
  • Strong member service and relationship management abilities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with board members, employees, vendors, regulators, and members.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and credit union operating systems.

Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance.
